Familiar Face Returns to Run Charleston's Wentworth Mansion10/21/2008 12:00:00 AM
CHARLESTON, S.C.— The Wentworth Mansion® is bringing back a familiar face to serve as the new general manager for the AAA Five Diamond hotel. Jennifer Jo Morgan, formerly the manager of Circa 1886, the AAA Four Diamond, Mobil Four Star restaurant located on the hotel grounds, will return to Charleston after spending several years owning her own bed and breakfast on Wellesley Island in New York state.
Morgan originally hails from New York, where she received a bachelor’s degree from Nazareth College in Rochester. She began her career as a costumer and costume designer for theatres in the Rochester area, as well as for the North Carolina Theatre Company and the North Carolina Opera Company in Raleigh, N.C. Morgan also worked as a restaurant manager and front desk manager for the Red Lion Inn and Restaurant in Blacksburg, Va. Morgan came on board at Circa 1886 in 1999 and worked as the restaurant manager until 2005, when she moved back to New York and purchased the Hart House Inn on the St. Lawrence River on Wellesley Island with her husband. The historic property was built in 1872 and was once owned by wealthy hotelier George Boldt. Boldt worked as John Aster’s right-hand man and eventually was promoted to hotel manager of Aster’s Waldorf Astoria. When the couple purchased the inn, it was a five-room bed and breakfast, which they then renovated, adding a commercial kitchen, three additional rooms, a fine dining space and a lunch café.
